What is
Stress?
Stress describes the wear and tear on the body due to
change, illness, injury or career and lifestyle changes
but often it is little everyday problems such as driving
in the rush hour, being late for appointments and even
getting too many emails – that create the most damage.
Stress affects
everyone physically mentally and emotionally. According
to the American Institute of Stress up to 90% of all health
problems are related to stress including heart disease,
high blood pressure, stroke, depression and sleep disorders.
How stressed
are you?
I feel very tired and exhausted most of the time
I am often nervous, anxious or depressed
I have sleep problems
I have repeated headaches or minor aches and pains
I worry about my job, financial commitments or relationships
What can
I do about it?
It is not the events or situations that do the harm but
the way you respond to them. How you feel about them relates
to how stressed you become. Emotions or feelings have
a powerful impact on the human body. Positive feelings
such as appreciation, care and love not only feel good
but are good for you. They help your body systems to synchronize
and work better like a well-tuned car.
HeartMath’s
research has shown that when you intentionally shift to
a positive emotion, heart rhythms immediately change.
The shift in heart rhythms benefit the entire body. The
results are immediate and long lasting.
How does
it work?
Negative emotions like anger, frustration, anxiety and
worry – lead to increased disorder in the heart
rhythms and the nervous system. However, positive emotions
such as joy , appreciation, care and kindness can create
harmony in the hearts rhythm and the nervous system which
scientists call coherence. Coherence leads to more mental
clarity, creativity and better problem-solving abilities.
It becomes easier to find solutions and better ways of
handling stressful situations.

I create and practice physiological coherence?
